Tanya Williams - a marketing rebel

MARKETING YOU WORKSHOP

With over 25 years of marketing know-how under her belt, Tanya is Chief of Everything at “Digital Conversations”, a boutique marketing advisory focused on helping busy business owners to find their sweet spot and to make your target audience crazy for you, usually involving words, words, words, and some numbers. She considers herself a marketing rebel and doesn’t believe that social media is the holy grail of marketing. Her mottos in life are “Always be learning” and “Never let anyone dull your sparkle.”

Key Marketing Strategies and Insights

Tanya Williams, the "Marketing Rebel," offers a fresh and authentic approach to marketing that is rooted in engagement, storytelling, and the strategic use of social media. Her insights are particularly valuable for businesses in the South Burnett region looking to enhance their visibility and build strong, lasting connections with their audience. By focusing on relatable content, leveraging multiple content formats, and maintaining a consistent and targeted marketing approach, businesses can achieve sustainable growth and success.

 Engagement Through Interaction

  • Visibility and Engagement: Tanya advocates for active engagement on social media by commenting on and sharing each other's posts. This mutual support not only boosts visibility but also fosters a sense of community among businesses.
  • Collaboration: Engaging in collaborations with other businesses or influencers can significantly broaden reach and introduce the brand to new audiences.

Storytelling and Relatability

  • Personal Stories: Tanya emphasizes the power of storytelling in making content relatable and engaging. By sharing personal stories and business challenges, brands can create a connection with their audience, encouraging deeper engagement.
  • Authentic Branding: A strong brand reflects the authentic self and personality of the business. Tanya encourages enterprises to focus on their unique strengths and assets to build a brand that stands out.

Utilising Native Content

  • Native Video Content: Tanya advises businesses to upload videos directly to social media platforms like Facebook, as native content typically garners higher engagement compared to external links.
  • Captions and Accessibility: Adding captions to videos ensures accessibility, catering to users who scroll through content without sound.

Leveraging Multiple Content Formats

  • Posts and Stories: Utilizing both posts and stories on platforms like Instagram and Facebook allows businesses to reach their audience in different ways. While posts remain on the feed, stories offer a more temporary, yet engaging, content experience.

User-Generated Content

  • Organic Promotion: Encouraging customers to create and share content related to the brand, such as photos of products or experiences, can serve as an effective organic promotion. This not only saves time but also adds authenticity to the brand.

Event Marketing and Collaborations

  • Live Videos and Interviews: Tanya highlights the importance of using live videos and interviews to promote events. These formats create real-time engagement and excitement among the audience.
  • Collaborative Efforts: Collaborations with influencers or other brands can enhance event visibility and attract a broader audience.

Content Repurposing

  • Efficiency in Marketing: Reusing old content is a strategy Tanya supports, as it saves time and ensures that valuable content continues to reach new audiences.

Audience Targeting and Consistency

  • Understanding Your Audience: Tanya stresses the importance of knowing your target audience and consistently reaching out to them through various channels, both digital and traditional.
  • Consistency Across Platforms: Maintaining a consistent presence across selected social media platforms is crucial for building and sustaining audience engagement.

Prioritisation and Marketing Planning

  • Focused Marketing Plan: Tanya advises businesses to develop a clear and simple marketing plan that leverages their strengths. This helps in staying focused and making informed decisions that align with the brand’s goals.
  • Balancing Digital and Traditional Methods: While digital marketing is essential, Tanya also sees value in traditional methods like direct mail, which can stand out in today's digital-heavy landscape.

Building a Strong Online Presence

  • Website Optimization: Tanya emphasizes the importance of a well-optimized, user-friendly website as a critical marketing asset. This includes having a mobile-responsive design, clear calls to action, personalized images, and a compelling "About" page.
  • Google My Business: She also advises businesses to set up and regularly update their Google My Business profile to enhance local search visibility.

Overcoming Challenges

  • Resilience and Focus: Tanya’s own experience of overcoming a life-changing car accident has made her resilient and fearless in facing challenges. She encourages businesses to adopt a similar mindset, focusing on future opportunities rather than dwelling on past setbacks.
