Lisa Stephenson is the Manager for Cultural Services at Fraser Coast Regional Council. She has a background in tourism development, regional marketing and events and is currently responsible for the operations of the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery, the Brolga Theatre, Gatakers Artspace and the Museum sites within Maryborough’s historic Portside Precinct.
Join Lisa as she shares the challenges and triumphs faced by her team in recent years. She will discuss how back-to-back flooding events at the heritage-listed Bond Store Museum led to a deeper understanding of its conservation requirements, which were previously at odds with its use, and how these insights prompted a shift in the museum's operational model upon reopening.
Lisa will also cover the critical building failure at the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery, where an HVAC system collapse resulted in a prolonged closure. She will share how her team attempted to provide services and remain relevant, without an actual physical footprint, and how re-engaging with the community during this period helped shape a renewed vision and stronger community connection for the gallery’s reopening.
Reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic, Lisa will highlight the resilience of her team, the importance of succession planning and business continuity, and the need for innovation. She will explore the complexities of decisions around event cancellations, postponements, refunds, and credits, offering valuable insights from an events operations perspective.
Additionally, Lisa will touch on the fire incident at the Brolga Theatre and emphasise how prioritising team well-being and seeking out silver linings helped navigate these adversities. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from Lisa’s experiences and gain insights into building resilience and fostering community connections in the face of challenges.
